Upgrade to IP Telephone System
In April 2013, ITS began migrating all users of the campus IP Telephony system onto an upgraded platform, which gives increased resilience and functionality. This project is ongoing.
Please visit: http://www.its.salford.ac.uk/telephony/newiptel for important information about the new system and how you will be affected, along with the schedule of migration.
Windows 7/Office 2010 Deployment to Staff Machines
This is a reminder that ITS are now in a position to offer staff a Windows 7 desktop operating system (including Office 2010) to match the image deployed into the student areas over the summer. However, it should be noted the the following Core Applications are currently incompatible with this operating system:
- Agresso Excelerator;
- Agresso Report Engine;
- BACStel IP;
- Bi-Query;
- CMIS (Timetabling);
- Maximiser;
- SAP (client upgrade only required);
- Tracker;
- Talis Decisions.
If you have a requirement to use these applications then you need to be aware that they are currently untested and may not work as expected. We would therefore advise if these are a critical requirement, that you stay with Windows XP for the short term.
Please note in addition that the standard offering is the 32-bit version of Windows 7. The 64-bit version is not yet available for staff, and when it is released, it will only be deployed where it is essential for software compatibility reasons.
If you feel you are in a position to benefit from an upgrade to Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010 please raise a call through the ITS Service Desk on 52444. You will be issued with a case number as always, and will then be contacted to arrange a convenient timeslot so that further information can be provided regarding deployment of the new image.
Your Existing Desktop Applications
If you have installed any additional software on top of your current Windows XP image, you need to ensure that it will work on Windows 7 and that you have the software available with valid licences to allow an ITS Technician to reinstall this after the upgrade.
Training and support
Training is available online or can be arranged for you by contacting HR-HRDEnquiries@salford.ac.uk. Support is also available at Drop-In Surgeries which run three times a week in the Newton and the Allerton buildings.
